As part of the Carpentry program at Summit Academy, students have the opportunity to learn at The Steger Center along with teachers and mentors. There, the students build cabins, repair docks, and gain real experience working with different building materials.
Student trips to Steger Wilderness have been going on for many years, giving Summit students real-world experience for techniques they've learned in the classroom and helping Steger Center build the infrastructure required to support its mission of promoting environmental study.
This year, the students were proud to work on one of the cabins on site: The Summit Rook. They covered the bare scaffolding with outer wall panels and added roofing sheets.
