Just ask Roderick De Gracia Vergara '22.
In just over a year, Summit Academy provided Roderick with the tools, resources, and networking opportunities needed to advance from recruit to recruiter for his company.
Before walking through our doors, Roderick already knew the basics of construction from his handyman father. Summit’s Construction training took those skills to the next level, giving him a background in floor and wall framing, blueprint reading, construction math, and more. When the end of his training neared, Roderick attended one of Summit's Hiring Fairs, where he spoke with recruiters.
Within just a few weeks, Roderick passed along his resume to PCS and got hired by them as a remodeler, transforming kitchens and doing cabinet re-facing. "I didn't know if I would like the work," Roderick admits. “But seeing a client’s face light up at the end of a project fulfills me. It’s my goal to make sure my clients are happy.”
Roderick’s passion for transforming spaces has paid off. Recently promoted to assistant project manager after his first year on the job, he recently helped train a new crew out of state. In his new role, he represented his company at a recent Summit Hiring Fair, Just months before, he was a student inquiring about a job; now, he was on the other side of the desk, helping students get hired.
Roderick credits Summit for his solid knowledge base and preparation for the future. "All the teachers, all the instructors, they have so much knowledge," he says. "They prepared me for this career. Now I earn a higher salary than ever before."
