Before attending Summit, Jeanette was working as a 911 dispatcher—a demanding role with high-stress situations. The challenges she felt in her work led her to make a change in her career path. “I wanted to learn skills that I could utilize professionally and in my own personal life,” she explains.

She decided to pursue a career in the trades, and enrolled in Summit’s 20-week carpentry training.

During her time at Summit, Jeanette gained industry recognized skills and received insight and guidance from local employers. She gained hands-on experience in real-world conditions, working with her classmates to build and frame a small structure in Phase Two of the training. “My time at Summit was great. It was a small cohort and I felt very connected to my teachers,” She shares. “The second phase of the carpentry training was instrumental in obtaining a job.”

Today, Jeanette works as a carpenter at Lake Country Builders, where she remodels homes in the west metro. From demolition to finish carpentry, every day is different. As she’s gained experience in the industry, Jeanette has also learned how to navigate being in a male-dominated field. “If you show up and are willing to put in the work you’ll be just fine,” she says.

With the foundation she gained at Summit, and a few years of experience in the field, Jeanette hopes to continue building her future by becoming a building inspector.
