When did you attend Summit?
I began the MAA program at Summit Academy in February 2020. After completing Phase I, I took some time off to focus on issues at home. I was able to come back to Summit in September 2020 to complete Phase II.

How did you hear about Summit?
I heard about Summit through my chemical dependency counselor when I was graduation from a treatment program. It was key to m recovery that I stay busy, motivated, moving towards future goals and future success. My counselor told me that Summit was the key to doing just that. She shared that is would not cost me anything to attend. That played a big part in choosing to enroll at Summit over any other college!

What barriers did you face while attending Summit?
I am in recovery and a single mother of three young children. Me and my children had just moved into our own home after suffering from homelessness for almost four years and I was doing a lot to keep building our lives up and maintain my mental health at the same time. I struggled with motivation when I first started Summit Academy and they helped me gain it back and maintain it as time went on.

What is the most important skill you learned?
Maintaining motivation is a skill that Summit taught me. While I was attending Summit, I was able to look to the future, the bigger picture, and kept myself motivated to complete the program. My instructors were constantly reassuring me this short time would help me build a better future for me and my loved ones.

What is your career goal?
I want to work my way up to an RN. I will work as a Medical Administrative Assistant for a few years and set money aside to pay for schooling to receive a license as an RN. I want to retire as a medical professional.

What advice do you have for those interested in your field?
You are important and needed. Believe and trust that your mind will motivate you to get you to your end goal. It is truly important to stay focused and do your best to rid yourself of any outside distractions during school. if something comes up, speak with your instructors and advisors about it promptly.

What did you like most about attending Summit?
I loved all of my instructors. They were all very down to earth and in it to win it with me. To me, it felt like we wanted the same goal for me, which is SUCCESS! My instructors did an excellent job with helping me learn a lot and retain the information that was given to me. All of the staff at Summit were awesome and genuine; it made it easier to motivate myself to get to class even on my "bad"days.
