Four years ago, Angela decided to pursue a career in the tech industry—something she was truly interested in. “My dad is really interested in computers, and I thought it would be pretty cool to learn more about it,” Angela explains. ”I always liked computers. I found them really interesting, and then the more I learned about them, the more I wanted to learn.”
She enrolled in Summit’s IT training during the COVID-19 pandemic, motivated by the opportunity to try something new. “It was appealing to me because with COVID, we couldn't do much. It was a perfect time to learn,” she shares.
Her leap into the tech industry quickly paid off. After completing an internship at Atomic Data—offered in partnership with Summit—she was hired directly into a Technician role. “Summit was the foundation, but then I came to Atomic and I get to use all of the skills I’ve learned,” Angela says. “It seems like every call is different than the last one in some way. Every experience I have is a learning opportunity.”
Now, as a Level 2 Technician, she spends her days solving hardware and software issues, managing tickets, and supporting clients through technical challenges. “I like that we get to talk to people during the day,” she shared. “I really like troubleshooting and being able to solve the issue and getting more efficient.”
Angela’s curiosity and drive have led her to earn multiple industry certifications, including Network+, Microsoft Fundamentals, and Azure Fundamentals—with Security+ and Endpoint Management currently in progress.
Angela credits much of her success to Summit’s welcoming learning environment and is proud of how much she’s grown in an industry that allows her to continuously learn. “It’s like everybody at Summit is there to help. It was a great atmosphere to learn,” she reflects. “Being a woman in tech, there's not a lot of us, so I'm glad I got the opportunity to work and got hired here.”
Angela’s story is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when workforce training programs like Summit and powerful employer partnerships work together to open doors and empower individuals to pursue a career they love.
