Before discovering her passion for electrical work, Emily was working as a server and bartender. When she heard about Summit’s construction training, she decided to enroll and pursue a career as an electrician.
During her time at Summit, Emily gained hands-on, real-world experience and professional development skills. "I loved seeing a project on paper and imagining what it would look like in real life," she says. "Summit gave me the right answer to 'is this really the right career path for me?' It gave me the confidence to know that I can really do this. "
After completing Summit’s training, Emily applied for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) apprenticeship. “Summit gave me a taste of what an electrician does. It left me wanting more—that is why I applied to the IBEW,” she explains.
Now, Emily is a second year apprentice in the IBEW Local 617 in San Mateo, California. She’s also enrolled in continuing education classes, preparing to become a journeyman—and eventually, she hopes to become a foreman with her own team.
Summit’s construction training gave Emily the confidence and technical skills needed to pursue her passion and take the next step in her career. With her determination and drive, Emily is showing others that the electrical field has opportunities for anyone wanting to build their future.
